Two of the most sought-after types of Polynesian artefacts in the world of collecting come to auction at Dore & Rees. These long stone-carved 19th century ‘spear clubs’ known as ‘akatara’ are of a very distinct design and come from the Cook Islands and even the story behind this is interesting - they had been rescued from a friend’s garden in the 1970s, where they had been used to support beans!
Dore & Rees is thrilled to be sponsoring a groundbreaking collaboration between Jingdezhen Ceramics University and the University of Staffordshire who this weekend launched the Legacy & Continuity - Willow Pattern Ceramics and Stories of ‘Other’ exhibition at Spode Museum, running until 29 March 2026.
We had tears and laughter in the house in July as writer John Harris chatted about music, autism and 'Maybe I'm Amazed' with Marc Allum for Frome Festival, 10 July 2025.
John discussed the challenges and joys of raising an autistic child, how at 3 years old his son James was possibly the world's youngest Mott the Hoople fan and just what was it like the day Paul McCartney came to town.
